In the 1940s, brothers Dick and Mac McDonald opened a small hamburger stand in their hometown of San Bernardino, California. The brothers' success and business methods caught the interest of Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman from Chicago, who turned the restaurant into one of the biggest companies in the world. Their main rival is Burger King. Out of the 195 countries in the world, 100 of them have a McDonald's. Of course, the USA, its home country has the most, with over 13,000 restaurants.
Their most famous mascot is the clown, Ronald McDonald, who was created by actor and weatherman, Willard Scott in 1963.
