Christmas in July is an ad for a now-defunct electronics retailer hhgregg, which was founded in 1955 and closed in May 2017 after filing for bankruptcy. The chain however, came back under new ownership as an online business.
The former mascot for the company was "H.H.", a rolled up hhgregg flyer with a yellow head voiced by Wally Wingert. H.H. was used from 2009 until 2011, and was mostly forgotten until 2014, when the mascot started to become a YTP(MV) meme. This ad is unarguably the most famous ad from the "H.H." campaign, promoting the company's "Christmas in July" sale in 2010.
Synopsis[]
The ad features H.H. outside of a hhgregg building, with a santa hat and a carol book, singing about the deals.
Lyrics:
Save on everything at Christmas in July, h-h-h-h-h-h-hhgregg!
Panasonic Blu-Ray, 99 dollars!
h-h-h-h-h-h-hhgregg!
32-inch LCD TV, 299, LG 42-inch HDTV, 489!
Everything's on sale during Christmas in July!
h-h-h-h-
[H.H. gets hit by a snowball] A snowball in July?
h-h-greeeeeeeegggggg!
Why It's Cursed[]
Commercial-wise, the ad is cursed because H.H.'s singing is pretty horrible sounding, and the lyrics alone are very cheesy. They re-used another commercial, and just left the snowball in. The character design is also very confusing to some.
