Wrigleys - Dog Breath

What did he eat? The dog, OF COURSE?!

Told you[]

Dog Breath was an ad for Wrigley's brand of "X-Cite" gum. It was quickly pulled in 2003 from British television due to a large amount of complaints from viewers.

Synopsis[]

A guy is sound asleep on a couch, when he wakes up looking like he doesn't look well. And before you know it, the guy pukes out a living dog. When he comes out, the dog turns to him and barks, shaking the fluid off of him. The boy quickly pulls out the gum, eats it, and the wet dog just suddenly disappears.

The ad ends with his mother about to leave for work, and she gives him a kiss.

Why It's Cursed[]

Scare Factor: Medium to nightmare.

The guy vomiting up a dog is extremely disturbing, and viewers (especially children) who watched it felt terrified and some older viewers even felt nauseous after the ad. [1] Because of this, about 580 viewers complained to the ITC (Independent Television Commission), and The Wrigley Company later apologized and stated that the ad would be moved to the 9pm "watershed" of British TV, a time where most mature audiences would be watching. Even after doing so, complaints still racked up, and the ad was pulled altogether the weekend after it initially aired.

Trivia[]

  • The ad was designed by Asylum Models & Effects. Originally, they built a rig that the dog could go through (with the help of his favorite sausage), match-moved to go with the actor's mouth. There is a video on it.
