This commercial was part of a series of commercials by Ford featuring dubbed over clips from the classic animes, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z.
Synopsis[]
We see Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon) and her cat, Luna looking out a window at stars in the sky. Usagi names off the different constellations as she sees them. "Sagittarius, Libra, and...The New Ford Fusion!" Usagi just loves the Ford Fusion and it's "cool" features. Luna blushes and reminds her that it also has features relating to driver assistance and safety that "make driving less stressful". Usagi, being her usual ditzy self, then says she wants a Fusion in "Lightning Blue" because it would "match her uniform perfectly". Luna groans and tells her she isn't even old enough to drive.
Why It's Cursed[]
Characters from a 90s anime are shilling cars, which is quite bizarre. What makes it even more strange that Japanese characters are advertising a car made by Ford (an American company) since Japan and the USA (along with others in the ring, like Germany) are rivals in the car industry. At the very least, they managed to get Stephanie Sheh and Michelle Ruff to reprise their respective roles as Usagi and Luna from the ViZ Media dub, so at least it SOUNDS right.
