This commercial advertising Honda scooters features the new-wave band DEVO endorsing their product and imploring customers to dress in the proper attire that best expresses their individuality.
Why It's Cursed[]
While there are many ads featuring DEVO, including one where they endorse Pioneer laser discs, this one seems the most cursed. For decades, the band has spread the message of disregarding individuality and commercialism. They seem to have forgotten that and accepted to collaborate with Honda to air a commercial targeted to the American population.
Incidentally, most Americans at the time were not familiar with DEVO's oeuvre except for their hit "Whip It". So seeing an ad featuring a band objectified as a kitsch one-hit wonder act adds to the curse factor.
