Jeffrey Modell Foundation "Rewind"

"Why is Katie not coming tod- oh never mind."

Rewind is a public service announcement by the Ad Council and the Jeffrey Modell Foundation, about the warning signs of primary immunodeficiency (pi).

Synopsis[]

A mother is in her living room on the phone, and she says "No, Katie won't be at ballet.... she's sick today.". Pseudo "static" lines appear on the screen with a "rewind" sound effect, and then she is seen with a white shirt and jeans. She says the same thing, "No, Katie won't be at ballet.... she's sick today.". The scene rewinds again, and the mother is now present in a knitted sweater, and she quotes the line again "No, Katie won't be at ballet, she's sick today.". After the announcer says "When your child gets sick with the usual illnesses and an unusual number of times, look for a pattern", the scene rewinds again and she is present in a green short-sleeved short saying "She's sick today."

The ad ends with "It could be an immune deficiency called pi, get the warning signs."

Why It's Cursed[]

The PSA is just lazy and annoying, it's so bad that it's wondering if it even got on television. There is no other line in this commercial (besides the voice-overs at the end) said or spoken except "No, Katie won't be at ballet, she's sick today". They even reuse the same soundbite twice, actually three times in a row, but the third time she says it, a re-recorded "She's sick today" is spliced in.

The static effect is also cheesy.

Trivia[]

  • If you slowed the speeding up sound effect way down, you could hear it say "Ethical Pharmaceutical Companies, we-"
