Skechers Hydee Hytops is a commercial aired in 2008 for Hytops sneakers from Skechers.
Advert[]
It starts out with a teenage girl named Hydee going to class with her new sneakers as everyone looking at her. She then opens her locker using witch powers by snapping her fingers. It displays the product a little bit through photos on her locker.
Then it pans over to show a boy blowing a raspberry at her, and then she says, "It's a girl thing" and snaps her fingers, and the boy turns into a frog and becoming smaller than his hat.
It then shows the shoes with her laying on top of the logo.
Why it's Cursed[]
This ad is upsetting due to the mean-spirited and counterproductive nature of the "It's a girl thing" message and theme. Which is sexist.
Also the extremely messy, low-budget, and somewhat amateur quality of the animation and graphics is another factor that makes this ad annoying.
Trivia[]
- Devin Millar created a version of the advertisement where instead of the boy turning into a frog, it is replaced with him getting a pair of the same shoes she has, and him joining her on her walk to class. This was made to go with Pride Month of 2020, when it was uploaded. It can be found on his KAIJAACK channel here.
