Sonic the Hedgehog Pasta was a food product made by Franco-American, introduced in 1995.
Synopsis[]
The ad opens up to a teen named Shaun playing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (or possibly Sonic & Knuckles alone), when his mother in the kitchen (face not seen) keeps calling his name, bouncing the can of the product around in her hand. A scene later, she yells "LUNNNNNCH!" and throws the can at him. Shaun is still focused into the game, and is obviously not aware of the can coming to him. However, he grabs it right at the moment it reaches him, with one hand still mashing on the Sega Genesis controller, and he utters "food".
Shaun plugs the can of pasta into a custom made "add on" plugged into the system, and the entire screen turns into the pasta that "sucks" into his mouth. The camera cuts to a closeup at his face, with his sunglasses lens containing the can's label, and he finally mutters "gooood". The screen then cuts to the tagline "What are you playing for lunch?".
Why It's Cursed[]
The ad is famous for Shaun and his notoriously dead and perhaps "ignorant" and "dimwitted" personality, and both of the characters in this ad just speak one word. Not to mention, the effect when Shaun sucks the pasta from the TV is pretty horrible, but granted, this was the 90's, where odd stuff are common.
Trivia[]
- Despite Shaun playing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, the theme playing in the background is from Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone, whereas the zone seen was Mushroom Hill, Useless not looks like the correct song. Furthermore, there seems to be no cartridge in the Genesis.
- If your stupid the kid may look like Dave from homestuck!
