Souvlaki Hut was an Australian Greek food restaurant chain which started operating in 2004. This ad from them aired in 2009 and was made by Shopforme, and in 2017, the chain appeared to cease operations.
Not to be confused with 2 other active chains like the 2 Souvlaki Huts, which both can be found in Canada and the UK.
Synopsis[]
Anthony Koutoufides (Kouta), a former Australian rules footballer, appears in the ad and he is seen walking through a jungle with a Souvlaki. A roar is heard, which makes him stop and looks at a wild gorilla. He asks "You hungry?" in a way that makes it seem like he can understand him, and so Kouta throws him a banana. Kouta then goes "Woah!", and the gorilla doesn't want it. He asks if the gorilla wants a Souvlaki, and he beats his chest in excitement. Kouta claims he'll have to impress him, and in the next scene, the gorilla plays a guitar, and a greek singer sings "Eat Souvlaki...".
The next screen features the chain's logo on a blue background, with the gorilla on the left side and Kouta on the right dancing. The announcer says "Souvlaki Hut. You'll do anything to get one!"
Why It's Cursed[]
It's a laughable in a bad way kind of ad. The animation itself is also ugly, like the banana Kouta throws, which turns into bad CGI when it lands near the gorilla. And it's also very clear that the entire advert background is a stock green screen.
