Jam Sessions - Sponge Cake (2007, Australia)
Hudson! Langue, please.
A commercial for the Nintendo DS game Jam Sessions. This controversial commercial only aired in Australia.
Synopsis[]
The commercial takes place at a boy's (named Hudson) birthday party. It starts with the mother directing his (possible) sister Sophie into the room, as she has a present to give to him, while meanwhile the mum gets the cake. Hudson thanks her for the gift and opens it, revealing it to be a Jam Sessions game. His other two friends who are sitting beside him on the couch are excited as well, and even one of them has a DS that they decide to play the game on.
The mother comes in with the birthday cake and sings "Happy Birthday", making Hudson get up and shout "WOAH, WOAH, WOAH! WHAT THE F**K IS THIS?", and then smacking the cake out of his mum's hands. He answers with "F**KING SPONGE CAKE? F**K!"
The commercial ends with the tagline referring to him as an "Instant Rockstar".
Why It's Cursed[]
The sudden abrupt behaviour of Hudson suddenly swearing. Ironically, the game itself is rated G for General Audiences in Australia, implying that the game is for all ages, when despite the fact the Australian ad campaigns are definitely not for kids.
Trivia[]
There is even another advert that has the same premise, with a kid getting the advertised game for their birthday, however, instead of Hudson, the kid's name is Jacob. Nevertheless, the advert involves Jacob trying to make out with his "Auntie" at a dining table, until his mother pulls him away.
