Part of Sprite's "Obey Your Thirst" campaign of the late 1990s. A common theme of the campaign was parodying advertising tactics and gimmicks often used by competitors where a cartoony mascot jumps off of the packaging talking about the stuff in the drink. The commercial was directed by Spike Jonze.
Synopsis[]
Two children walk into the kitchen and say that they are thirsty. Luckily, their mother has two glasses of Sun Fizz waiting for them. "Sun Fizz, that's our favorite!" the kids say in unison. Then all of a sudden, the Sun Fizz mascot comes to life and says "That's because there's a delicious ray of sunshine in every drop", accidentally scaring the family. While running away from the cute CGI character, the mother trips over a vacuum and her daughter screams "Mom!" as the Sun Fizz mascot runs toward her before the scene goes black with the text and a male voice saying "Trust your gut, not some cartoon character." followed by the mascot's laughter.
Why It's Cursed[]
A CGI character coming to life and unintentionally scaring a family, which is taken to the realistic extent to this commercial, to the point where everyone including the dog are scared. It's also HEAVILY implied the mom was killed at the end.
WHY DON'T YOU JUST KILL THE CGI CHARACTER WITH KNIFE?
There is also a similar Jello parody ad made by SkyCorp.
